Online forms often limit how big your photo can be, and 50 KB is a common limit. A normal phone photo is usually in megabytes, so it will be rejected as it is. Here is how to get it under the limit and still keep it clear.
Step 1: Read what the form actually asks for
Before you resize anything, find the photo instructions on the form. Note down:
- The maximum size in KB (and a minimum size, if there is one)
- The size in pixels, if it is given
- The file type, usually JPG
Sizes change from form to form and year to year, so use the numbers on your own form, not a number from a website.
Step 2: Resize the photo
- Open the Resize image to 50 KB page. If your form has other limits, use the photo and signature resizer instead.
- Choose your photo from the gallery. Pick the original, not a copy that was sent over WhatsApp, because those are already compressed.
- If the form gives a size in pixels, type the width and height.
- Press Resize image and look at the preview.
- Download the new JPG and upload it to the form.
Your photo is processed on your own device. It is never uploaded to our servers.
If the photo looks blurry
A very small file size forces the picture to be compressed harder. Two things help:
- Use a smaller width and height. A small picture at a small file size looks better than a large picture squeezed hard.
- Start from a clear photo. Good light and a steady hand matter more than any tool.
If the form also needs a minimum size
Some forms reject files that are too small, for example under 20 KB. In the photo and signature resizer, enter both the maximum and the minimum. If the result is too small, the tool adds invisible padding to reach the minimum, and the picture does not change.
Taking a better photo for the form
- Stand in front of a plain, light wall in daylight.
- Hold the phone at eye level and keep your face centred.
- Do not use filters, and check the photo is not sideways.
Quick checklist
- Size in KB is under the maximum (and over the minimum, if there is one)
- Width and height match the form, if it states them
- File type is JPG
- The face is clear and the photo is not rotated
Save the final file in a folder named for the form. You will probably need it again.
