Add Page Numbers and a Watermark to a PDF

Number the pages of a PDF, stamp a word such as COPY or DRAFT across them, or do both. Choose the style and position, and download the result. Your PDF is never uploaded.

How to add page numbers or a watermark Online

  1. Choose your PDF, or drop it onto the box.
  2. For page numbers, pick the style, the position, the first number, and the text size. You can leave the first page without a number.
  3. For a watermark, type the word and choose how it sits on the page, its size, strength and colour.
  4. Press Create PDF and download it. Open it and check a few pages.

Good to know

  • Your pages are kept as they are, and text in the PDF stays selectable. The numbers and the watermark are added on top.
  • Page numbers count from the first number you choose. If you leave the first page unnumbered, the second page still shows the next number.
  • A light, grey watermark keeps the page readable. Raise the strength only if it is too faint to see.
  • Text can use English letters, numbers and common symbols. Other scripts are not supported yet.
  • Pages that are turned sideways are handled, and the numbers stay upright for the reader.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened. Remove the password first.
