Make a Clean Signature Image from a Photo
Take a photo of your signature on paper and get a clean image: paper and shadows removed, cropped tight, and sized for your form. Your photo is never uploaded.
How to make a clean signature image
- Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, and photograph it in good daylight with the paper flat.
- Choose the photo. The tool removes the paper and shadows, and shows the cleaned signature below it.
- Adjust the ink strength, the ink colour and the space around the signature until it looks right.
- Choose JPG for a white background, or PNG for a transparent one.
- If your form gives a size, enter the width, the height and the maximum size in KB. Then press Create signature file and download it.
Tips for a good result
- Use plain, unlined white paper. Lines on the paper can be picked up as part of the signature.
- A black or dark blue pen works best. Light or pale ink can break up, so raise the ink strength if the strokes look thin.
- If bits of paper texture or shadow show up, lower the ink strength.
- Hold the phone straight above the paper, and keep your hand and phone from casting a shadow. Avoid the flash, since glare can wash out the ink.
- Choose a width and height only if the form states them. The signature is fitted inside without being cropped.
- Use the signature you normally sign with on your documents. Some forms compare it with other records.
Frequently asked questions
Is this tool free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is cleaned and resized in your browser, on your own device, and is never sent to a server.
Should I choose JPG or PNG?
Choose JPG when a form asks for an image of your signature, because it has a white background. Choose PNG when you want a transparent background to place your signature on a document.
How do I get my signature to the size my form asks for?
Enter the width and height in pixels, and a maximum size in KB if there is one, then create the file. The signature is fitted inside the size you chose without being cropped.
Why does my signature look faint or broken?
The ink may be too light for the photo. Raise the ink strength, or retake the photo with a darker pen, more light and a plain white page.
Is this an official digital signature?
No. It makes a clean image of your handwritten signature. Some processes need a certificate-based electronic signature instead, so check what your form or office requires.
